Guitar Bridge Setup
Building my first guitar… Strat or Jazzmaster?

I’m building a warmoth guitar. About to order the body. Swamp Ash, clear gloss finish, Seymour Duncan ‘59 in the neck position and a Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge position. So… With a dual Humbucker setup… Stratocaster? Or… Jazzmaster? I can’t make up my mind and I need some opinions.

I love the sound from the strat, good old american electric guitar. Cant go wrong

Guitar Bridge Parts
How can I get my broken bridge pins out of my acoustic guitar so I can change my strings?

My brother broke off the top part of two of the bridge pins on my acoustic guitar.I can’t figure out how to get them out of there! Can someone tell me how to do this? My strings need replaced real bad. Its an acoustic by the way for those who didn’t know. Let me now is there is some trick to getting them out.

Thanks guys.

IGNORE all previous answers! some of these suggestions are flat out wrong and may damage the guitar if you do it.
I have actually performed this repair several times (I worked in several music stores as the repair guy)
Here is what you do:
#1 loosen all the strings and remove all the ones that you can. Don’t worry about string tension or any of that nonsense. Guitar necks are built to survive long periods of no tension.

#2 remove the remaining 2 strings from the headstock and cut them off with a pair of wire cutters close to the bridge.

#3 use a small pair of needle nose pliers and try to push just the remaining string down into the body of the guitar if possible. This will help to unseat the broken bridge pins. (This may not be possible depending on how hard the ball ends of the string are wedged between the end of the pin and the under side of the bridge.)

#4 carefully reach inside the soundhole and try to feel the end of the bridge pins coming through the top of the guitar. If you were able to push the remaining string into the guitar then see if you can gently push the pins up back through the guitar face and bridge.

#5 If the pins will not push up easily then take the small needle nose pliers and gently reach them into the sound hole and grab each pin. Gently push the pin up while lightly twisting it. The pins should come out with a minimal of effort.

DO NOT drill into the pin. DO NOT to attempt to push the pin through the body. DO NOT use a foreign object to try and pry or pull the broken pin out. Any of these things can damage the guitar.

If you cannot remove the pins with the instructions I have provided or do not feel capable of performing the task as I have laid out, then take the guitar to a local music store with a competent repair person and let them do it for you.

Be sure to buy a new set of bridge pins because the old ones may be ready to break too. The proper way to remove a bridge pin is to use a string winder. If you look at the “cup” of the string winder you will notice a small half circle notch. This notch perfectly fit underneath the head of the bridge pin. Place the notch under the head of the pin and gently pry the pin up and out of the bridge.
A string winder is an essential tool for a guitarist and it only cost a couple of bucks. Bridge pins usually cost about a $1 each.

good luck!

Guitar Stop Tail
Found a stray puppy… strange behaviour?

An adorable little beagle… she’s grown, but just barely.

We’ve been feeding her and watering her… she’s too precious and sweet to allow her to wander the streets when so many horrible fates could await her.

I play the guitar… that’s actually how we found her. I was sitting out on the deck playing it and she somehow went over/under the fence.

Whenever I play she seems really happy, wags her tail and looks at peace.

Whenever I stop playing she cries!! It’s heartbreaking to hear her cry!! And she won’t stop crying until I begin playing again.

Has anyone heard of this behavior in a dog?

She likes to be serenaded!!

Electric Guitar Bridge Setup

A bass players approach to choose is of vital importance to the way the notes are out of resonance. I learned (or not learned) early on can have unpleasant effects in the overall tone that player gets from its low / her. For many of the players under, making a just a few simple changes in how the hand is placed a big difference. To others, the movement used to start the chain is creating a harsh tone. Here is a list of five mistakes many bass players in his hand technique base:

1. Arm rests not in the right place

How much of a player's arm rests against the bass may seem unimportant, but is the beginning the optimal configuration of harvesting by hand. It is best to rest the forearm so that it touches the lower most of the wrist near the elbow. This prevents the wrist from the obligation to bow too. Too much arch in the wrist may start to cause injuries, especially to more aggressive bears. Rest the arm where it is more comfortable in the back of the lower (against half of the forearm closest to the wrist) so that it is not a forty-five degree angle at the wrist when picking fingers touch the strings.

2. Manual harvesting is not properly positioned

Harvesting by hand should hang directly over the area collection. Picking the strings around the pads bassist will give a stronger, more consistent tone. Keep the hand picking at a right angle or perpendicular the strings. A player can shoot at your elbow close to your body so it is easier and more comfortable. The fingertips curl around to rest easy against the strings.

3. Plucking the strings incorrectly

Sometimes the bears do not use the best motion in their attack base collection. Errors common include lifting the fingers high and slapping down against the string when plucking a note, or hooking the finger on the string and pulling upward toward the ceiling to pluck. The angle of attack must be on the instrument, making the full round sound.

It is very important to keep picking fingers completely relaxed! Try to imagine that the chain is not even there and are trying to seize the truck. Imagine you're playing 'through' chain. Let your fingers relaxed chains come through leaving vibrating with a good track, even the sound.

4. Alternating picking strength / agility underdeveloped

It does not take long for a bass player to develop some speed and control with alternate finger picking. The first step is to play a note on each string, alternating between finger and a half. Try playing the notes and still sound larger as possible. Get the motion down so that all the notes got a good sound. Then start playing scale patterns slowly, keeping an eye on the form and building tone.Calluses rapidly, without pain to strike the strings all day.

5. No no awareness or control of tone

When a bass player focuses on the fundamental technique, usually focused on execution and attack, and can not be listening to the general tone he / she is producing. Once a bear learns the proper setup and technique, it is important to start trying to get a good full, even tone that sounds sweet. It is an ongoing search, so the sooner a bass player realizes his tone and begins to give way before it sounds like a pro.

Bassists should also know how to make the tone slightly varying the the picking attack and location. A player must be able to pick hard, loud or soft quieter notes with the same constant, and even control.

Bass tone can be largely completed by gathering at various points between the bridge and the end of the neck. Picking closer to the neck produced a bass sound very Boomy. This comes in handy for playing certain styles. Picking near the bridge that makes a louder tone, punch in midrange. Many bass players tend toward this area as it makes the notes ring and stand out a bit more clarity.

Bad habits will be collected by hand difficult for a bassist to have much control over the instrument. Make some simple tweaks to hand positioning and search engines can improve agility attack players under and overall tone dramatically. Does not take much time to develop more speed and attack control with alternate picking. The player can then move on to the sculpture of his unique sound on the instrument. Bass players who do not learn these things spend much time trying to play parts that are not really that difficult. Do not be one of them!

Bridge Guitar
Is it possible to do this with a guitar tremolo bridge?

Hello, I have got a guitar that I am quite happy with, but the tremolo bridge or whatever it’s called, the one with the whammy bar only goes one way, the way that makes the tone go deeper. I was wondering if it was possible to mod the bridge in some way to make the tone go the other way. Like so it can go both ways like a floyd rose.

You can try here for more help with that.
