The great motivator Earl Nightingale came up with the following definition of success…
“Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal.” I love that definition! What does this definition mean to you? Let’s take a closer look at the worthy ideal part of it…

Please spend a few minutes writing down what the words “worthy ideal” mean to you. To me it is my vision of perfection…a vision of how I would ideally like things to be.It is a vision that I find inspiring and energizing!

If your success with guitar is totally dependant on working towards a worthy ideal, doesn’t it make sense that you first need to figure out what YOUR worthy ideal is? How can you progressively realize something if you don’t know what it is? Let’s do some exercises to figure your one out…

Please invest at least a couple of hours doing the following exercises. They will really help you to build a picture of your worthy ideal in your mind’s eye…

Exercise 1:
Imagine how would ideally like to play.Try and imagine what your guitar playing would sound, look and feel like. What guitar techniques are you a master of? How does your improvising sound? What about your composing? Please write your answers down now.

Exercise 2:
Imagine your ideal guitar playing career. Would you be a master guitar teacher? What about an amazing performing artist? Or what about performing as part of a highly successful band? How about being an in demand studio guitarist? What do you TRULY want to do? Please write down your answers now.

Exercise 3:
Write down your worthy ideal. Write it down in the present tense, as if you have already achieved it.Try to condense it down into a one paragraph statement.

Exercise 4:
Invest 5 minutes every morning and night to read your worthy ideal. This will help you to stay motivated and focused on what you TRULY want.

Clarity is essential. Without it you won’t be able to start developing an effective plan to work towards your worthy ideal.

You may find as you answer the questions that self-doubt starts to creep in. You may doubt whether or not what you write down is even possible! This is normal. Just write down your answers anyway :) You don’t need to know right now HOW you will achieve your worthy ideal. All you need to do is figure out WHAT it is.

It looks so easy…. Enjoy!

Guitar Number Strings
can someone pls help me with guitar string sizes?

i’ve bought a cheap 2nd hand acoustic guitar for $1 @ a garage sale & odd guitar strings from another garage sale, however, i have no idea which string goes on first or where. i’ve got a loose string without a name/number & 5 other strings that are numbered 0.10, 0.13, 0.16, 0.22 & 0.30. the loose string is definitely not either of the 2 top strings because its silver but not sure where its supposed to go. any help would be greatly appreciated!

if it is a steel string acoustic instead of a nylon or classical (you can tell by the bridge where you set the strings, if it has pins then it is steel string otherwise you damage your guitar putting steel strings on a nylon guitar) then i would say to put those five strings at the high end of the guitar and buy a loose low e string (the top one) at a music store and you will be good to go

Guitar Accessories
Question about guitar accessories?

I am a beginner guitarist and am about to get and Epiphone Les Paul as my first electric guitar. It doesn’t come with any accessories, so can you tell me what I will need and probably want for my guitar?

Nice guitar, man.

An amp would be one. You don’t need a super expensive one, but dont get a cruddy one either. If you go to a guitar store, and tell the salesperson your situation, they should help you find a good one.

An amp cord. This conects from the guitar to the amp and its what carys the sound from one thing to another. Get a relitively good one, because bad ones can break and cause the sound to be bad or choppy. The sales person should help you with this too.

You need picks as well. They most likely sell these at any music store. It’d be best to start of with medium (the levels mean how much they bend) you can change as you find out what you want.

As you get more into it, you might want to buy a pedal for special effects.

You will need a tuner, or you could use the piano if you’re familiar with the names of the notes on the piano.

A case would be good to cary around. If you’re planning on taking it to a lot of places, you may want to concider a more expensive hard case in comparison to a softer cheaper one.

In the end, the amp will probably cost anywhere from 100 to 250 dollars depending on which one you get.
The cord for the guitar will cost from 15 bucks to 45 bucks. The ones in the upper range of that will be very high quality. Normal ones will cost about 20 bucks.
Picks will cost 3 bucks for a package of 15 – 20 or somewhere around that price range.
Pedals cost about 75 to 300 bucks. Usually, the high end ones or pro quality ones cost from 250 to 300 bucks. Depending on what effect you want, that will also change the price. One that usually costs a little more is digital delay pedals. Tuners may cost anywhere from 40 bucks to 100. A lot also have metronomes with them. A hard case could cost about 45 to 70 bucks, while a soft one will cost about 20 – 30 dollars

It’s best to not rely on people on the internet. Altough I’ve been playing for a while and know my stuff, it may be different for you. Go to a guitar center or music store. Dont be afraid to ask for help. It’s their job to help you get the best items for your situation.

Number Guitar Strings
Just curious, is there a finite number of songs that can be compsed on a guitar?

there’s a six strings and a finite number of notes and/or chords so it seems to me that there must be a finite number of combinations. but people write new songs every day. someday, will all of the songs that can be written, be written?
so if one evolving song of infite length was written would all of the combinations of chords, notes, octaves, etc. be used? causing at some point for the eternal composer to begin repeating?

Hi, nice to meet you!

No, because the combination is infinite.

You have to look at the possibilities:
I know that there are only six strings and a finite number of notes, but you can use as many notes as you want…
It also depends on the length of the song:

A song with 1000 notes has more than 2401 combination, that only if you play it in one octave and only single notes.

If you play it in chords and single notes, there would be infinite number of combination.

It’s only for a song with 1000 notes, what about 5000 thousand notes? 10000 thousand notes? There would be infinite number of songs.

Have a nice day^^!
